Iredell EDC attended the 2024 SelectUSA Investment Summit, held from June 23 – 26, 2024, at the National Harbor in Washington DC. Hosted by US Department of Commerce, the event commemorated ten years of connecting international investors, companies, economic development organizations, and site selection consultants and providers for the purpose of attracting foreign direct investment in the United States. The SelectUSA Investment Summit is the largest international investment summit with 5,000 attendees from 96 international markets and all 56 US states and territories.
Jenn Bosser, President & CEO, Iredell EDC attended the event this year participating for the first time as a delegate with the Southern Economic Development Council #AmericanSouth Team. The Southern Economic Development Council is a membership organization representing 17 states across the Southeast. As a member of the 12-person delegation, Jenn had the opportunity to participate in partner meetings and interact at the #AmericanSouth Booth with international companies looking to invest in the Southeast. The Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina also hosted a delegation and booth space with economic development representatives from across the state. Additionally, they hosted an evening reception on Monday, June 24 at the Flywheel at the Harbor for clients including international companies and site selectors looking to invest in North Carolina.
Over the last five years, Iredell County Economic Development Corporation supported 18 International Projects, both new and expanding companies, representing $264 Million in investment, the creation of 1,274 new jobs, and occupying a total of 1.7 million SF. Through the week, Iredell EDC met with representatives from Israel, France, India, Japan, Canada, Hong Kong, and other countries. “Foreign Direct Investment is really a partnership effort and a long-term play,” Bosser shares. “These companies are trying to navigate how the US works and understand the best location for their operation and strategic interests. It was terrific to be with a delegation of others from the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance, Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC) and Southern Economic Development Council #AmericanSouth at a show this size.”
The summit highlighted the sustained global interest in North Carolina, which has been a premier location for investment for consecutive years. The state’s impressive economic expansion, favorable tax environment, strategic position, culture of innovation, talented labor force, and commitment to workforce development have captivated the interest of investors and site selectors. On a broader scale, the US continues to be esteemed by international participants as a foremost destination for commerce. The US has maintained its position with the largest GDP in the world. International companies recognize the opportunities the US market has, and Select USA provides interested companies to accelerate their connections and knowledge of the US market.
