OUR 2025 LEADING LADIES NONPROFIT

Girls on the Run Greater Piedmont (GOTRGP)inspires young girls to be confident, healthy and joyful using a fun, evidence-based curriculum that integrates physical activity and running! Our organization is the only national physical activity-based positive youth development program for girls with evidence of program impact from a rigorous external evaluation study. The 10-week curriculum includes lessons that specifically target specific skills and strategies such as how to manage emotions, help others, make intentional decisions, and resolve conflict that they then use at home, at school and with friends. We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

Volunteer coaches are certified to facilitate the curriculum before the program begins via a National Coach Training Program. This training prepares them to build relationships with girls, create a positive, inclusive environment, support individual improvement, and deliver the intentional curriculum all while integrating running and physical activity! Girls will improve their overall health and maintain valuable lessons throughout their life they learned through Girls on the Run. At the end of the 10-week program, girls participate in a Celebratory 5K held in our territory where the girls run, walk, or skip 3.1 miles with their peers. This celebratory 5K is a time to bring their caregivers, loved ones and peers together to celebrate the girl and all her accomplishments.

Currently our organization serves nine different counties including Stokes, Iredell, Yadkin, Alexander, Davidson, Rowan, Davie, Guildford, and Forsyth. Sites for our programs can be at schools whether they are private, public, charter or Title I. Sites also can include community centers like YMCA’s or Boys and Girls Club or community parks. There are multiple ways to get involved in our organization and we firmly believe that everyone has something to offer to our mission! Those inspired by our programs and want to help further our mission should look apply to be a board member, we accept applications year-round! You could volunteer at our events including our Celebratory 5K. Sharing with your network about who we are and what we do helps to further our mission even more. Last but not least, if you are able to donate all donations help us to cover financial assistance fees for any girl who would like to be a part of our program! Every little bit helps!
