When we embarked on the project with Hobby Lobby in Arden, North Carolina in 2016 to complete the landscaping for their new retail location, we knew it would be an exciting challenge that would allow us to showcase our expertise in landscape design and execution. The project not only demanded a high level of aesthetic appeal but also required functional and sustainable landscaping solutions.

The development involved various critical elements: soil preparation, irrigation systems, plant and sod installation. Each component was vital to transform the site into a visually appealing and environmentally sustainable area.

Overcoming Challenges

One of the initial challenges we faced was the location. Being out of town, logistics required meticulous planning and coordination. Every piece of equipment and plant material needed precise scheduling to ensure timely delivery and installation.

The steep topography of the site added another layer of complexity. It required us to think innovatively about our approach to soil preparation and irrigation. The terrain demanded a terracing approach to soil management and plant installation to prevent erosion and ensure that every plant received adequate water supply without wastage.

Soil Preparation

Our team began with extensive soil testing to understand its composition and nutrient levels. This allowed us to enhance the soil structure, making it suitable for the diverse plant species planned for the area. By adjusting the soil composition, we ensured a robust foundation, essential for the healthy growth of the plants and the longevity of the landscape.

Irrigation System Installation

Water efficiency was a top priority given the project's scale and environmental considerations. The system was crucial, especially on the sloped areas, ensuring every drop of water was used effectively.

Plant and Sod Installation

Choosing the right plants was crucial not only for aesthetics but also for the long-term sustainability of the landscape. We selected native species that would thrive in the local climate with minimal maintenance. The installation of sod brought immediate greenery, transforming the barren land into lush, inviting spaces that complemented the overall design of the shopping center.
