Purple Heart Homes Partners with University of South Carolina Pitcher for Strikeouts for Veterans Campaign
Update:
Jake McCoy has recorded 38 strikeouts in his first four games this season. Resulting in $874 in donations.
Purple Heart Homes (PHH) is excited to announce the partnership with University of South Carolina Gamecocks Pitcher Jake McCoy. Jake has pledged to donate $23 per strikeout he throws to PHH during his 2025 season. Jake opened up his 2025 campaign with nine strikeouts against Sacred Heart University.
“We are so proud of Jake, honoring Veterans through his support of Purple Heart Homes. Baseball has such deep roots in American history and in our military. This is a great way to bring awareness to Veteran housing needs. From as early as the Civil War all the way to the War on Terror baseball has been a morale boost to our troops. Jake is bringing that same morale boost home again with every strikeout,” said John Gallina, Co-Founder and CEO of Purple Heart Homes.

Jake is a Sophomore left handed pitcher for the Gamecocks. He is a Fort Mill, S.C. native, where he attended Catawba Ridge High School. In his Freshman season as a Gamecock, Jake had 12 appearances, where he struck out 20 batters through 16 innings. Jake is looking to have a promising season as one of the Gamecocks’ aces.
Jake and PHH are looking for corporate sponsors to match Jake’s commitment to raise $2,300, with 100 strikeouts this season.
“For every strikeout I throw this season as a pitcher for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, I’ll be making a donation to Purple Heart Homes—and I’m inviting you to join me. Every dollar raised will go toward ensuring veterans have safe, accessible homes that meet their needs. This is my way of saying "thank you" to those who have sacrificed so much. Whether you donate a set amount or pledge per strikeout, every contribution makes a difference. Let’s step up to the plate together and make a real impact for our heroes. Are you in?,” said McCoy.
