Around 7:30am, four members of the Statesville Fire Department, Cpt. Matt Thompson, Lt. Brent Jones, FF James Thompson, and FF Stephen Church, departed to assist in the ongoing wildfire response in Polk County, North Carolina.

The crew will be deployed for up to seven days, working 12-hour shifts focused on structure protection in high-risk areas. As part of a coordinated mutual aid response, they will work alongside other fire departments to safeguard homes and critical infrastructure that are threatened by the advancing fire.

The wildfire response in Polk County presents unique challenges due to the mountainous terrain and rapidly changing conditions. However, our firefighters are highly trained and equipped to handle these demanding situations.

The City of Statesville is proud of their commitment and dedication. We will continue to share updates as we receive more information. Please keep our firefighters in your thoughts and prayers as they serve and protect beyond our city limits.
