Front & Center: Keeping You Informed of City of Statesville Happenings (08/28/2024)


Weekly updates from the desk of April Nesbit, Public Information Officer for the City of Statesville. Continue reading below updates for the week of August 28 - September 3, 2024.

Labor Day: September 2, 2024

In observance of Labor Day, all City of Statesville offices will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2024. This closure includes the Statesville Fitness & Activity Center and its Administrative Offices.

Revised Garbage Collection Schedule

There will be no garbage collection on Monday, September 2. The following revised schedule will be in effect for the week of September 2-6:

Residential Routes:
  • Monday’s routes will be collected on Tuesday.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday’s routes will be collected on Wednesday.
  • Thursday and Friday’s routes will be collected on the regular schedule.

Commercial Routes for Businesses with Roll-out Carts or Garbage Containers:

  • Monday and Tuesday’s routes will be collected on Tuesday.
  • Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday’s routes will operate on the regular schedule.

City Council Meeting

Please note that there will be only one City Council meeting in September, scheduled for Monday, September 16, 2024. This meeting will include a session for public comment, allowing residents to share their thoughts and concerns with the council.

Facility Closures and Special Hours

  • The Statesville Leisure Pool will be open on September 2nd for two swim sessions, weather permitting:
    • Session 1: 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
    • Session 2: 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm
    • Each session is limited to 300 patrons, with entry on a first-come, first-serve basis.

National Crime Prevention Week (September 1-7, 2024)

At the Statesville Police Department, we believe that crime prevention is a shared responsibility between law enforcement and the community.

National Crime Prevention Week, observed each year from September 1-7, 2024, is an important reminder of the proactive steps we can all take to ensure the safety and security of our neighborhoods.

This week is an opportunity to highlight the various ways we can work together to reduce crime, foster trust, and create a safer environment for everyone in Statesville.

Hurricane Preparedness Month

September marks Hurricane Preparedness Month in Statesville, North Carolina, a time when we must revisit and reinforce our readiness for the ongoing hurricane season, which runs from June 1st to November 30th.

While Statesville is not on the coast, we're not exempt from the potential impacts of hurricanes. Let's jump into understanding the hurricane threat, the top three best practices for creating a hurricane plan, what to do during a hurricane, and how to navigate the aftermath.
