Water and Sewer Rate Increase for FY2024-25

Attention Statesville Water Customers:

We want to inform you about an important update regarding water and sewer rates in our city. Starting July 1, 2024, there will be a 7% increase in water and sewer rates for the fiscal year 2024-25.

In the 2021-22 fiscal year, a 20% rate increase was implemented to address capital and operating pressures. Despite this increase, Statesville’s rates remained among the lowest in the region and state. A planned 5% rate increase for FY2023-24 was postponed to alleviate financial pressure on residents following a county-wide property revaluation that increased property values by an average of 30%.

The Water/Sewer Fund continues to face capital and operating pressures, including increased maintenance needs for existing infrastructure and the need for long-term treatment and capacity expansion at the Fourth Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. Additionally, costs for chemicals, fuel, and repair projects have more than doubled since 2020. The proposed rate increase includes funding repairs to the City's backup water supply pump station, which was damaged during Tropical Storm Eta in 2020.

This rate increase is essential to ensure the continued provision of reliable water and sewer services. The city is committed to maintaining and improving our critical infrastructure to support our growing community.

We understand the impact of this rate increase and appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
