Iredell County Board of Commissioners recognize key community initiatives for April
During the April 1, 2025 meeting, the Iredell County Board of Commissioners approved several proclamations and a resolution to acknowledge and promote vital community services and initiatives throughout April.
National Library Week: April 6-12, 2025 The Iredell County Public Library will celebrate National Library Week from April 6-12. This year's theme, "Drawn to the Library," highlights how libraries spark creativity, fuel imagination, and inspire lifelong learning. Residents are encouraged to visit their local library to explore resources, attend programs, and discover the multitude of services offered that contribute to personal and community growth.
National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week: April 13-19, 2025 The Board proclaimed April 13-19 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Iredell County. This observance honors the dedication and professionalism of 9-1-1 dispatchers and emergency communications personnel who are the critical first point of contact in emergencies. Their commitment ensures the safety and well-being of residents and first responders alike.
National 9-1-1 Education Month In conjunction with recognizing emergency communications professionals, the Board adopted a resolution establishing April as National 9-1-1 Education Month. This initiative aims to educate the public on the proper use of the 9-1-1 system, the importance of reducing non-emergency calls, and the capabilities of modern emergency communication technologies. Public education efforts will focus on enhancing awareness about when to call 9-1-1 and the information needed during an emergency.
Child Abuse Prevention Month Nationally, April is also recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Board emphasizes the importance of community involvement in protecting children and supporting families. Awareness campaigns and educational programs will be conducted throughout the month in partnership with the Iredell County Department of Social Services, Iredell County Guardian Ad-litem office, Pharos Parenting, Children’s Hope Alliance, Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center and the Iredell County Partnership for Young Children, to highlight strategies for preventing child abuse and neglect, and to promote the well-being of all children in Iredell County. Additionally, all Iredell County facilities will have blue exterior lights at the main entrances in recognition of this cause for the entirety of the month.
The Iredell County Board of Commissioners invites all residents to participate in these observances and support the initiatives that enhance the safety, education, and well-being of the community.
