The March meeting of the General Federation of Women’s Club of North Carolina (GFWC-NC) Statesville Woman’s Club was sponsored by the Arts and Culture Community Service Team. Guest speakers at the meeting were local entertainers Rick and Veda Bafford.

While Rick performed using guitar, Veda played her fiddle and performed sets (three songs put together with just a change of tempo between songs). They also shared how Irish music got started, including that printed Irish music is thanks to Scottish printing presses. The Bafford’s also told of their trips with friends to perform in Ireland.

The Club will be holding a “March Mingle” on Tuesday, March 26 at Wine Maestro in downtown Statesville, you can drop-in from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Members, bring friends. Interested in joining? Please Come!

The next club meeting will be on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at the historic clubhouse located at 515 West End Avenue. There will be a time of Social Fellowship at 11:30 a.m. and Meeting at Noon. The Education and Environment Community Service Team (CST) will be leading the meeting. The meeting guest speaker will be Peyton Barrows, Literacy Program Coordinator for the Iredell County Partnership for Young Children. All members, guests and interested women are invited to attend.

In preparation for the April meeting the Education and Environment CST is joining with the Iredell County Partnership for Young Children to get as many books as possible in the hands of parents and young children in our community. You can truly make a lasting difference in a child’s life by donating books for children birth to

five years old. The club is collecting new or “like new – very, very gently used” board books, picture books and Imagination Library books now through April. Please bring books to the club meeting or place books (sealed in plastic bags to protect from moisture) in the blue donation bin on the front porch of the clubhouse.

The Education and Environment CST is also currently collecting used natural wine corks to help conserve forests and oceans. For every natural wine cork our club sends to the CorkClub initiative funded by WidgetCo, Inc. they will donate two cents to forest and ocean conservation. Please give your corks to any club member or contact the club.

The club is currently taking orders for “Blooms for a Cause” the General Federation of Woman’s Club of North Carolina (GFWC-NC) Statesville Woman’s Club Annual Geranium Sale. Geraniums may be picked up on Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. to Noon.

These Lovely North Carolina Geraniums will be available in: Hanging Baskets (Pink Parfait or Red) for $25.00 each. Early ordering is encouraged in order to get color preferences.

A portion of proceeds will benefit the Iredell County Partnership for Young Children’s Pampered Pantry.
