GFWC of NC Statesville Woman's Club Welcomes My Sister’s House to February 2024 Meeting
The February meeting of the General Federation of Women’s Club of North Carolina (GFWC-NC) Statesville Woman’s Club was sponsored by the Community Impact Community Service Team. Guest speakers at the meeting were from My Sister’s House Director, Brittany Campbell and Domestic Violence Advocate, Emily Cowan, discussed the mission of My Sister’s House and ways the community can help out with needed items.
The ladies shared that My Sister’s House is part of Fifth Street Ministries and have a 24-hour crisis hotline. In addition, they work with those ladies that come to the shelter with resources through the community, offer counseling, support groups and therapy. While an average stay is 90 days some have lasted years depending on the need. At the meeting 63 caring toiletry bags were assembled and additional supplies gathered as part of the club current collection of “Love Our Sisters” items to donate to My Sister’s House.
The project focus for February is a “Love Our Sisters” a collection for My Sister’s House through Thursday, February 29, 2024. A drop off box is located beside the front door at the Historic Clubhouse located at 515 West End Avenue, Statesville.
Types of items needed...ethnic hair care products; ethnic skin care, lotion, Vaseline; towels; washcloths; twin and queen sheets; pillow cases; laundry detergent; fabric softener; all paper products; disposable forks, spoons, knives; diapers size 1 up to pull ups; and small toiletry items such as hotel shampoo, hotel conditioner, lotion, soap, mirrors, lip gloss, chapstick, face wipes, deodorant, etc. to fill make up bags.
Another project focus for February will be a food drive. Let us share a bit of our own abundance with those who do not have enough. Please plan to bring canned goods to the clubhouse. Items will be donated to the local food pantry at Yokefellow Ministry.
The Education and Environment Community Service Team is currently collecting used natural wine corks to help conserve forests and oceans. For every natural wine cork our club sends to the CorkClub initiative funded by WidgetCo, Inc. they will donate two cents to forest and ocean conservation. Please give your corks to any club member or contact the club.
The club is currently taking orders for “Blooms for a Cause” the General Federation of Woman’s Club of North Carolina (GFWC-NC) Statesville Woman’s Club Annual Geranium Sale will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. to Noon.
These Lovely North Carolina Geraniums will be available in: Berry Parfait, Bright Pink, Bright Red, Pink Parfait, Salmon, Violet and White for $6.00 per plant or $38.00 for a flat (8 plants per flat, mixed colors qualify). There will also be Hanging Baskets (Pink Parfait or Red) for $25.00 each. Early ordering is encouraged in order to get color preferences. Some Geraniums may be available the day of the sale.

A portion of proceeds will benefit the Iredell County Partnership for Young Children’s Pampered Pantry.
The Club will hold its next meeting on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at the historic clubhouse located at 515 West End Avenue. There will be a time of Social Fellowship at 5:30 p.m. and Meeting at 6:00 p.m. The Arts and Culture Community Service Team will be leading the meeting. This will be fun gathering welcoming local entertainers Rick and Veda Bafford. The couple will be sharing Irish folklore and music. All members, guests and interested women are invited to attend and encouraged to wear green.
